Duhlata Cave, Sofia, Bulgaria. 4.12.05.
Duhlata is the longest cave in Bulgaria with 6 levels and 16 galleries mapped to date. It was formed in limestone by the Strouma River system in the mountainous region of Vitosha. The exploration was conducted by the Bulgarian Speleological Club Helictit and the BFS (Bulgarian Federation of Speleology). The Greek participants were: Anastasia Vaseiliadou, Niki Saridaki, Vaso Kokkala, and Sofia Lemani.
Many people contributed to the success of our caving in Duhla. We owe a tremendous debt to Kosta Stoichkov and the gifted members of the Helictit. We are thankful to Georgi Chakurov and Kalin Georgiev not only for their genuine kindness and patience but also for their cogent instuctions and practical assistance to improve our skills. Valuable friends in town and on the road were Veselin Drobenov and Cvetan Parov (SK Sofia).
We are grateful to the President of the BFS, Alexey Jalov and all those who provided us vital financial support and open access to the information about caving in Bulgaria. Most importantly, we thank them and all those who collaborated in this expedition for their open mind, their kind heart and for every smile. Without these people, none of this would have been possible. We hope they understand our gratitude and respect for their contributions.
True Frienship knows no limits...like Alexey Jalov says
